Nancy Lyles Brown

York, SC – Nancy Carol Lyles Brown, 83, passed away at White Oak Manor in York on Tuesday, September 12.  

Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at Republican Baptist Church in Edgefield, SC, followed by her funeral service at 11:00 AM, with Pastor Lance Thomas officiating. Interment at the church cemetery will be held after the service.

Nancy was born on December 26, 1933 in Laurens, SC to the late Boyce Dean Lyles and Iva Fulbright Lyles. 

She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Joseph Rayford Brown; her sisters, Lillian Lyles Compton and Joan Lyles Coker; and her brothers, W. S. (Red) Lyles, Dean Lyles, and George Lyles. She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca Smith (Steve) of York; her son Joseph N. Brown (Tori) of Minneapolis, Minnesota;  grandchildren, Doris Brown Shellhorse (David), Stephanie Smith Jarrett (Shawn), James S. Smith, Jr. (Jennifer) , Shawn Rayford Smith, (Stephanie);  and great-grandchildren, Sarah Jarrett, Mary Grace Jarrett, Brayson Smith, Avery Smith, Logan Smith, Hunter Smith, Henry Shellhorse, and James Shellhorse.

Nancy was a longtime member of Republican Baptist Church. She enjoyed antiquing, lunching with her friends at Captain “D”s, attending meetings of the Red Hat Club, and working crosswords and cryptograms. She lived at Harbor Chase Assisted Living for 3 years where she was usually seen walking the halls, laughing and talking, and generally cheering up anyone who needed it.  She loved playing bingo and cornhole, and was caught playing Wii a time or two!  She loved singing gospel songs anytime! By far, her favorite was when musicians came to play—when she would sing and dance if the opportunity arose!  She added life and laughter wherever she went and will certainly be missed by family and friends who were fortunate to have known her!
