Aiken, SC…….Mrs. Terry M. Smith entered into rest at her residence on August 26, 2024 at the age of 85.
She was born in Gloster, MS on Christmas Eve 1938 to the late Charles Elliott McGraw and Emma Richmond McGraw. She was the youngest of four children, and worked at the family’s drug store, ice cream shop and soda fountain, which was the only one in town. Terry was a majorette in high school, graduating in 1956. She later attended business school and worked for many years as a medical transcriptionist. She was an avid booklover and reader, and a lifelong learner.
In January 1963, Terry married Gary Max Smith. They enjoyed traveling to bluegrass festivals in Texas to watch Gary’s brother perform. They welcomed two beautiful daughters into the world together, one of which inherited Terry’s gorgeous red hair.
After living most of her life in Jackson and Utica, MS, Terry spent her final years among family in Aiken, SC.
In addition to her parents, Terry was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gary Max Smith, and by her brother, Charles Elliott McGraw Jr.
Left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Kari Ledbetter (Trey) and Denee Smith; two sisters, Janice “Patsy” Richmond and Jeannie Digel; three grandchildren, Emma Grabowski, Madison Ledbetter, and Alexander Ledbetter; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 28 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Rowland-Ford Funeral Home, 637 West Martintown Road, North Augusta, SC.
