Ruth Dugas Orr

Ruth Dugas Orr, age 91, entered into rest on September 3, 2023.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, W.H. and Mattie Ruth Bell Dodgen; brother, W.H. Dodgen, Jr.; husbands, C.J. Dugas and Richard H. Orr. She is survived by son, Terry Dugas, Riverton, WY; grandsons Justin and Alec Dugas; step-daughter and son-in-law Marsha and John Thompson; step-grandchildren John C. Thompson and Hope T. Bowers; and special friend Rhonda Thomas.

Ruth was a lifelong member of St. James Lutheran Church, Granteville, SC where she served in the past on Church Counsel, was former Vice-President of WELCA, and a past voting delegate to the SC ELCA Assembly. She also served two terms on the ELCA Synod Council in Columbia, SC. She worked at Dupont / SRP for 36 years. She followed with 13 years as a Program Records Manager at Westinghouse, retiring at age 70. Ruth was awarded the Westinghouse SRS President’s Community Service Award in 2002.

She was the first secretary of Aiken Dixie Youth Baseball, established the first Junior Bowling League at Aiken Bowl, past President of the Augusta Jazz Project, past member of the Board of Directors of the Augusta Opera, past President of the Aiken Mental Health Association, past member of the Board of Directors of the State Mental Health Association in Columbia, and past President of the Older Wiser Lutherans Red Hat Chapter.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2023 at 11:00 AM at St. James Lutheran Church in Graniteville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. James Lutheran Church, 200 Laurel Drive, Graniteville, SC 29829.
