North Augusta....... Ms. Mildred Louise Hooper Owens was entered into eternal rest on August 1, 2024 at the age of 94. She experienced her life as a caring mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and friend.
She was born to the late John J. and Bessie Hooper on January 1, 1930. She was the first baby born in the State of Georgia in 1930. She was raised and remained in the Augusta area most of her entire life. She married her husband, James H. Owens, Jr. (pre-deceased), in Augusta and they ultimately made their home in North Augusta. Together they had 4 children: Cindy, Jeff, Susanne and Brad.
Attending her grandchildren’s sporting events and recitals was something that she enjoyed greatly. She also enjoyed sewing, interior decorating and working in her yard. She was a member and was married at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and was a member at The Church of the Good Shepherd in Augusta. After moving to North Augusta her family joined St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church. As a long-time member of the St. Bartholomew’s Altar Guild, she enjoyed preparing the linens for the church services and is remembered for her many years of continued service to the church. She also was a volunteer with the North Augusta Police Department for many years where she was recognized for her service.
Her family grew over the years to include many grandchildren and great grandchildren to whom she was affectionately known as “G-Ma”. Her children; Cindy Owens Ware (Joe pre-deceased), Jeff Owens (Kim), Susanne Ploetzke (Bob), Brad Owens (Bethany) provided her with wonderful grandchildren; Jansen Ware (Sky), Jenna Opal Ware (pre-deceased), Jacey Ware Story (Matt), Jarett Ware, Jordanne Owens Hollingsworth (Brent), Shelby Owens, Monica Ploetzke (Amanda), Alex Ploetzke, Kristie Alise Ploetzke (Michael), Ashten Owens Eudy (Frank) and Aubrey Anna Owens.
