North Augusta, SC.....Airman First Class (Ret.) Maurice Neil Bussey entered his heavenly home on November 4, 2022, at the age of 87.

He was born in the Flat Rock section of Edgefield County to the late J.D. Bussey and Ella Mae McClendon Bussey.

Neil served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War in the early ‘50s. His love of flying led him to become a Private Pilot. He continued serving the Veteran community as the Historian at the Jesse C. Lynch American Legion Post #71, as a member of the Korean War Association Post #255, and as a Volunteer Benefits Service Officer at the Veterans Hospital in Augusta, Georgia.

He was active in the North Augusta community and in his Church, Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Augusta, Georgia. Neil served as a Greeter at the North Augusta Activities Center, as a Council Person at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, as a chairman of the Service Committee, and as a Church Usher. He was also a Safety Instructor for the church for thirty years. He retired from Southeastern Stages.

When asked for thoughts he would like shared, Neil said, “Always love one another, and remember Jesus is love, and he loves you,” and, “Keep the faith. ‘Spread the gospel.’ Let others see your good works.”

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 64 years, Alma Williams Bussey; his daughters, Michele Smith (James), and Janet Vaughan Barlow (Lloyd); his sister, Susan Cheves (Rev. Henry Cheves), two grandchildren: Courtney Johnson (Shandon) and Travis Vaughan; two great grandchildren: Celynn and Everly Johnson.

A graveside service will be held at Pineview Memorial Gardens on Tuesday, November 8 at 2:00 PM with Military Honors performed by members of the Jesse C. Lynch American Legion Post #71. Rev. Tom H. Rogers will be officiating. Honorary Pallbearers will be Travis Vaughan, Shandon Johnson, Jason Clemons, Greg Kenrick, Steve Kenrick, James Smith and Lloyd Barlow.
