Mattie Alma Williams Bussey

North Augusta, SC.......Mattie Alma Williams Bussey, 84 of North Augusta, SC was born October 5, 1938 in Trenton, SC and passed away on January 23, 2023. Known affectionately by all as Granny, especially to her
grandchildren and great grandchildren. Alma was named after her Aunt Mattie Williams Atkinson, who taught Alma how to sew intricate pieces of clothing, one of which was Barbie Doll clothes. Alma also enjoyed quilting, cooking, baking and gardening. She was a Member of the Sheridan Bible Class at Curtis Baptist Church where she was the Secretary/Treasurer for over 30 years. She retired after 30 years from the Medical College of Georgia (Augusta University) where she was an Administrative Assistant in the Department of Medicine.

She is predeceased by her husband Maurice Neil Bussey, who recently passed away in November. Alma and Neil would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in April. Neil and Alma made North Augusta their home since their marriage in 1958.

In addition, Alma is predeceased by her parents, Cyril Bryan Williams, Sr. and Ella Ruth Quarles Williams. Alma lost her mother at the young age of four years old. She is also predeceased by her stepmother, Ola Williams, her brother, Cyril Bryan Williams, Jr. (C.B.); sister, JoAnn Lassorella; brother, Gary Williams; and sister Joyce Craps.

She is survived by her daughters, Michele Smith (James) and Janet Vaughan Barlow (Lloyd); grandchildren, Travis Vaughan and Courtney Johnson (Shandon) and great grandchildren; Celynn Johnson and Everly Johnson.
She is also survived by her sister, Miriam Padgett (Lewis), and brothers, Doug Williams and Vann Williams; sister in-law, Susan Cheves (Rev. Henry) and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend appreciation to Yolanda, Mr. Will, and the entire staff at the Benton House of Augusta for the compassion and care they gave Alma.

Visitation will be held at Rowland-Ford Funeral Home on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at 2:30 with Graveside Services following at 3:30 at Pineview Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Rev. Tom H. Rogers will be officiating.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Travis Vaughan, Shandon Johnson, Grant Barlow, Ricky Williams, Lloyd Barlow and James Smith.
