Margaret Jeanette (Padgett) Layman

Margaret Jeanette Padgett Layman was a daughter of Herbert H. Padgett and Violet Louise Proveaux. She was a small town girl, raised in Bamberg, SC, a cotton mill community. She cherished her memories of her childhood and her job as a telephone operator for Bell Telephone in Augusta, GA.

She met her future husband on a blind date at the Miller Theater, and they were married March 10, 1951 at the preacher’s house and had a small reception at the Partridge Inn, Augusta, GA.

Together, they raised three children: Stephen, Jana, and Keely. They settled in Arlington, WA upon her husband’s military discharge, but returned home permanently to South Carolina in 2004.

She loved having her morning coffee while sitting on her deck and basking in the glorious sunshine. She loved flowers, travel, reading and shopping. Most of all, she loved her family and her Lord! 

She leaves her son and daughter, 14 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren (with one on the way) to cherish her memory. 

Her husband, G.A. (Guy), daughter Keely, and infant son, Guy Anthony, preceded her in death. 

She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.

When asked to impart words of wisdom on life, her witty response was, “Keep on truckin’!” In her memory, we shall carry on. 

Burial will be in Warrenville Cemetery on Sunday, August 14, 2022 at 2:30 p.m.
