Linda Thompson Obituary

North Augusta, SC……. Linda Sargent Thompson (Lynn) passed away on July 4, 2025 at her home in North Augusta, SC.after a courageous battle with colon cancer.  Lynn was born on Dec. 9, 1944 in Daytona Beach Florida. She was raised by Josie Dorothy Brantley and Henry Edward Sargent, her adopted parents, in Jacksonville, FL.

She was predeceased by her husband of 33 years Walter L. Thompson, her parents Josie and Henry Sargent, and her son Quitman R. Wakeley III.

She is survived by her loving husband Jerry Murrell, her daughter Meredith Fent (Douglas), her sister Lorraine Bushnell, her grandchildren, Katie Hartley, Quitman Wakeley IV, Evan Fent and Josie Fent; and many dear friends near and far.

Lynn was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Augusta, GA where she served as wedding coordinator for many years. She was a talented interior decorator for a large part of her life. She was an excellent cook and loved to share meals with community and friends. She was very passionate about historic preservation which was obvious with the restoration of the Sesame Lodge (her home for many years). She restored this house back to its original glory. Her career for many years was that of a purveyor of antiques and jewelry. Lynn was also an advocate for adopted children.

Her greatest passion was the Living History Park which she founded in 1991 in North Augusta, SC, She was on the board and served as President for Olde Towne Preservation Association which manages the Living History Park; transforming an abandoned water works plant into a beautiful 18th century colonial village, overseeing the construction of 20 buildings funded by grants and donations.  She was always very proud of the fact that the nonprofit had no salaried staff and was supported by many volunteers.

She was very civic minded and over the years served on many boards.  In 2011 Lynn was named the Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the year.

Her wish is to have a memorial service at the Park, which will be honored at a later date after repairs to the park have been completed following damage due to hurricane Helene.
