Jerry Barnes

Jerry Barnes, a resident of North Augusta, SC, passed away peacefully at his home on August 26th, 2023, just a few days shy of his 80th birthday. Born to the loving parents Hazel and Gilbert Barnes in Afton, Ohio, Jerry's journey through life was marked by dedication, service, and profound connections.

He embarked on a remarkable path, graduating from Bethel Tate High School and answering the call to duty by enlisting in the Air Force in 1962. Jerry's commitment to serving his country was unwavering, and he honorably served until 1971. During this time, fate intervened as he crossed paths with Elizabeth Barnes, the woman who would become the love of his life. Their serendipitous meeting on a blind date in May of 1965 blossomed into a deep and enduring love story, culminating in their marriage on January 28th, 1967. From their union, two beautiful daughters were born, becoming a testament to the love they shared.

Jerry's professional journey saw him excel as a Mechanical Engineer, leaving an indelible mark through his work at various companies across the United States. His years of dedication led him to his final professional chapter in Aiken, SC, where he contributed his expertise to BAE Systems before retiring. Jerry's professional achievements were a reflection of his determination and passion.

As we bid farewell to Jerry, we remember his strength in the face of adversity. He was preceded in death by his mother Hazel, father Gilbert, and his beloved daughter Seana, who surely welcomed him with open arms. He leaves behind cherished memories and an enduring legacy that will be carried on by those who survive him.

Jerry's memory lives on through his sisters Barbra, Joyce, and Judy, his devoted wife Elizabeth, his daughter Jessica, his son-in-law Chris, and his adored granddaughters Alana and Nadia. His spirit also lives in the hearts of numerous nieces and nephews who found inspiration in his life.

To celebrate Jerry's 80 years of a life well-lived, his loved ones are invited to join in a commemoration on what would have been his milestone birthday, September 3rd, 2023. Visitation will take place at Rowland-Ford Funeral Home from 2:00 to 3:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at 3:00. In honor of Jerry's memory, the family kindly requests donations in lieu of flowers.
