James Newton Beatty, Sr.

Edgefield, SC - Mr. James Newton Beatty, Sr., entered into rest Sunday, September 12, 2021, at the age of 84.  He was preceded in passing by his wife and Jr. High sweetheart, Ann.  He is survived by his son, James N. Beatty Jr. (Vicki), of Martinez, GA; daughter, Kathryn Leigh Beatty of Aiken, SC; son, Judson Beatty (Mardi) of Columbia, SC; grandson, James N. Beatty III (Maria) of Augusta, GA; grandson, William T. Beatty (Kelley) of Augusta, GA; and grandson, Austin M. Beatty (Taylor) of North Augusta, SC. 

Known as "Jim" to his friends, "Jimmy" to his family, and "Big Daddy'' to his grandchildren, he was raised in Selma, AL, by his parents, William Travis Beatty and Nora Walker Beatty.  He graduated from Auburn University with a B.S. in Engineering before relocating to the CSRA in 1961, and worked at Savannah River Site his entire career.  An enthusiastic Auburn Tigers fan, he co-founded the Augusta Auburn Club.  He loved golf, especially the Masters, and was a member at several local country clubs over the years in N. Augusta, Aiken, and Edgefield, most recently at Pine Ridge.  He also loved nature, wildlife, and his pets, including his cat, Buffy.  He was known to be selfless, and to always have done the right things for the right reasons.  He was the best father and husband one could have.

Private family services will be held.
