Hermie was born in Donna, TX on February 25, 1951 to the late Ruben and Ninfa Zavala. In the words of her sister, “Hermie was a wonderful and loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was loved by everyone who knew her. She gave us all such courage and hope; forever reminding us of the preciousness of life. Her legacy will live on in each of us living life to the fullest.” She will be remembered as being a child at heart and having a heart of gold. Her cooking and baking were loved by all who had the opportunity to enjoy them. She loved to entertain, particularly her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren; she was full of energy and devoted the majority of it to her family. When she wasn’t shopping or collecting antiques, she could be found eagerly awaiting the next adventure with her family. Hermie loved God and constantly prayed for those in need; the children of St. Jude’s Hospital held a special place in her heart so she donated and encouraged others to donate regularly.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Robert Zavala.
She is survived by her children, Christopher Brown (Rita), Michael Brown, Melissa Custich (John Paul), and Laura Brown (Travis Canfield); the father of her children, Ed Brown; her grandchildren, Amanda O’Hara (Eddie), Madison Curtis (Dylan), Krislyn Brown, Mikey Brown, and Luna Custich; her great grandchildren, Zealynd, Bristol, Ella, and London; her siblings, Rachel Lucio, Virginia Zavala, Chris Zavala (Rose), Ruben Zavala, Jr. (Margaret), George Zavala, Humberto Zavala (Millie), Ninfa Adame (Martin), and Ramiro Zavala.
