Gerald Darial Cockrell

North Augusta, SC…….Mr. Gerald Darial Cockrell, 81, husband of Brigitta Cockrell, entered into rest on Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at his residence.

His funeral service with Military Honors will be held at 12:00 PM on Monday, May 1, 2023 in the Rowland-Ford Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Chris Brown officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.

Born in 1942 in Saluda County, Mr. Cockrell spent his teenage years in Warrenville before making North Augusta his home as an adult. He graduated from LBC School in 1961 and went on to have a career with Graniteville Company working in the Gregg Division where he retired after 45 years of service. During that time, Gerald served his country in the US Army National Guard where he retired after 20 years of service with the 1221st Charlie Company of the 122nd Engineer Battalion. He was an active member of Victory Baptist Church since 1980; he was a member of the Friendly Persuaders Sunday School Class in his latter years. Lovingly remembered as “Papa”, he enjoyed spending time with his family and attending his grandchildren’s activities. Camping, dove hunting, cane pole fishing, tending to his garden, tinkering in his building, and shopping the Saturday yard sales were some of his favorite hobbies.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his children, Daryl Cockrell (Tammie), Michael Cockrell (Brenda), and Jenny Franklin (Gaston); his grandchildren, Caroline Creech (Will), Jessica Cockrell, Carson Cockrell (fiance Autumn), Hunter Franklin, Madison Cockrell, and Cooper Franklin. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carson and Nettie Adams Cockrell; his aunt, Gertrude Adams; and his siblings, Selma Cockrell Uldrick (Gene), and Mildred Cockrell Storey (Jerald).
