North Augusta, SC…..Mr. George Horne McKie, 89,entered into rest on Saturday, December 19, 2020 at his residence.
His graveside service will be held at 12 noon, Sunday, December 20, 2020 in Sunset Hill Cemetery with Rev. Roy Kiser officiating.
Better known as “G.H.” to his friends, “Daddy” to his girls, and “Grandpa” to his grandchildren. By these and other names; “Uncle”, “Cuz”, or friend, he was known and loved by many, primarily because his story was punctuated with copious amounts of love, laughter, and a lively pursuit of life. His devotion to St. James United Methodist Church was only eclipsed by his love and devotion to his two daughters, Debra and Diane.
G.H. never strayed too far from home except when he joined the US Marine Corps, played softball, or delivered fish. Growing up on a dairy farm, G.H. often had to clear the GA/FL Line Railroad (aka The Greeneway) of the dairy cows, prior to a scheduled train’s bisecting the farm. It would be on this rail line that he would become a railroad fireman before he was employed by E.I. DuPont at Savannah River Plant.
On “parallel tracks” the dairy farm’s pastures and barns would give way to ponds and fish tanks, and the McKie Fishery was open for business. Because of G.H.’s varied background of occupational forays, his experiences became stories, and his stories became rainbows of knowledge and wisdom. As you can see, his presence, love, and smiling face will always be missed, but never forgotten.
G.H’s legacy is carried on by his two daughters, Debra McKie Clough and her husband, Mike and Diane McKie Drake and her husband, Steve; his grandchildren, Richard G. Weigle, Lindsey A. Weigle, and Heather Drake; great grandchildren, Claire Weigle, Richard Weigle, Jr., and Sarah Barlow.
The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Donovan “Donnie” and Doris Elaine Casteen for all the love and support they showed G.H., especially during his struggle with Parkinson’s Disease.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation, 200 SE 1st Street Suite 800 Miami, FL 33131 or parkinson.org
