On July 7, 2022, Ernest Jerry Murphy Jr. of North Augusta, South Carolina was called home to be with his Lord Savior, Jesus Christ.
Jerry was born in Augusta, Georgia, February 28,1928. He made his home of North Augusta for 67 years. He was the son of the late Ernest J. Murphy and Isolene Boyd Murphy of Augusta.
Jerry was predeceased by his loving wife Ann Butler Murphy of 58 years and grandson Brad Fielder Hardman. He is survived by two daughters Carol Murphy Grant, Sarasota, Florida, Jan Murphy Hardman, Gainesville, Georgia; a sister, Jean Murphy O’Hara, North Augusta, SC; grandchildren Ashley Grant, North Augusta, SC, Tracy Grant, Sarasota, Florida, and Scott Hardman, Gainesville, Georgia.
A graduate of Richmond Academy in Augusta and joined the United States Navy where he served 2 years. Jerry then attended Clemson University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was proud of his 44 years as an Engineer at the Savannah River Plant. One of his greatest achievements was being honored by receiving the Excellence Award for his significant contributions to the Nuclear Weapons Program.
Jerry was known as being a “people person.” Above all he was a committed husband, father and Papa who will be remembered for his devotion to his family.
A private family graveside service will be held at Westover Memorial Park in Augusta, Georgia.
