A native of Savannah, Mrs. Mallory and her beloved husband, the late Paul G. Mallory, Jr., resided in Atlanta and Eatonton before making North Augusta their home for the last 20 years. She was very active in the Methodist Church and in many other volunteer programs. She received special membership to Methodist Women in each of the 5 churches that she was a member of. This very special annual award honors an individual in the church that exemplifies leadership and service. While living in Eatonton, Ellen was honored as Putnam County’s Citizen of the Year, was the first woman to serve on the Board of Putnam County General Hospital, and ran the very successful hospital gift shop for 15 years. She was also the first female class president at Savannah Junior High School. Over the last 20 years, she has been an active member of Grace United Methodist Church where she has served in the Gifts Group, was a member of the Florrie Derrick Circle and volunteered at Community Ministry of North Augusta. Truly the embodiment of a servant’s heart, she loved doing things for others. She was a master at remembering to send notes and put her fabulous cooking skills to use, making sure anyone in need always had a casserole or a cake. In her later years, when people would come to visit to brighten her day, each left feeling better for having been able to spend time with her. Most of all, she was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
In addition to her beloved husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Paul G. Mallory, III and son-in-law, Ricky Hargrove.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Polly M. Hargrove, her grandchildren, Travis Hargrove (Heather), Ashley Bean (Uriah), James Mallory, and Sam Mallory; her great grandchildren, Evan Hargrove, Noah Hargrove, James Bean, Charlie Bean, Ethan Mallory, Nevaeh Mallory, and Asa Mallory; and several nieces, nephews and their families.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Grace UMC 639 Georgia Ave. North Augusta, SC 29841; Community Ministry of North Augusta 531 Belvedere-Clearwater Rd. North Augusta, SC 29841; or just go give your friends and family some extra love.
