Dr. R. Larry Brown Obituary

North Augusta, SC..........Legacy is defined as the richness of an individual's life and what a life that was lived by Dr. R. Larry Brown! Heaven welcomed “Our Preacher” to Glory on Saturday, August 28, 2021. Dr. Brown finally met his Savior, the One he preached about for 53 years.

Dr. Brown loved people and dearly loved his family and friends. He was a beloved husband to Mrs. Diane and the love they share was rare. Their marriage was a testimony of God's faithfulness through their 53 years of marriage. He was a loving father who loved their children deeply and unconditionally. There was no doubt how much he loved their sons, Richard (Stacy) Brown and Christopher (Melinda) Brown, and their daughter, Angela Faith Brown. Heaven reunited him with their precious twin daughters, Ronda and Tonya, who passed away shortly after birth. The joy of being a grandfather was evident in Preacher's life. To their grandchildren and great-grandchild, Austin and Devin (Emily), Madison (Cody), Cameron, and McKinsey, Jared, Alana and Brody, and Milo Harley, he was simply the greatest and coolest PawPaw.

Preacher Brown was the son of Richard Brown and Ms. Jean Brown-Ladd who were both saved under his ministry. Born on September 26, 1946, Preacher Brown was the oldest of four children in the Brown household, brother Mike (Sandra) Brown, Bill Brown, and sister, Pam Brooks. They gave him numerous nieces and nephews whom he cared for deeply.

Dedicating 45 years to loving people was the heartbeat of Preacher Brown. With all of his might, he invested countless hours loving the family of Victory Baptist Church, the church he founded in 1975. He was passionate about pointing everyone he met to Jesus. In his lifetime he traveled thousands of miles to tell everyone he met, "Ain't Nobody Like Him." Dr. Brown established Victory Baptist College in 1984 with the mission to train young preachers. Over 50 churches have been started out of the Bible College that impact thousands of lives across this nation. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be sent to the Victory Baptist College, 620 W. Martintown Road, North Augusta, South Carolina.

Preaching was his passion and he could preach like none other. Lovingly referred to as “Downtown Larry Brown”, his fiery preaching was fueled by the power and the presence of the Holy Ghost. His worship was contagious and no rock was going to cry out for him! He encouraged an atmosphere of worship and a church culture of uninhibited praise and freedom to worship.

Friendship was a big deal to Preacher Brown. If you were ever his friend, you were always his friend. He would cry with you, laugh with you, and he would love you back from times of discouragement. He was quick to enjoy talking about old cars, his beloved Georgia Bulldogs, Harley Motorcycles, and two scoops of Breyers vanilla ice cream. Everyone he met quickly was loved and befriended by Preacher Brown.

Family will receive friends on Tuesday evening, August 31, 2021, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Victory Baptist Church, 620 W. Martintown Road, North Augusta, South Carolina. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. also at Victory Baptist Church with officiants Dr. CT Townsend, Dr. Steve Hurte, and Dr. Joe Arthur.
