Clarks Hill, SC....... David Wayne Garland, 71, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2026. He was known for his generosity, his curiosity, and his unique ability to turn strangers into friends.
Born on April 28, 1954, in Wilmington, North Carolina, David was the son of the late Billy Eugene Garland and Frances Edens Garland. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann, and his brother, Glenn Garland.
David is survived by his daughter, Megan Garland; his brother, Gene Garland and his spouse Fran; and his nephews Nathan (Kevin), Brandon (Danielle), Matthew (Tomi), Trey, and Austin Garland.
David spent much of his career with GE and Georgia Iron Works. Outside of work, he was an active member of the Belvedere Masonic Lodge and the Augusta Gem and Mineral Society. He was also an avid supporter of numerous charities.
David had many passions, but his greatest joy came from sharing them with others. If he discovered something he loved, whether a local product or a new hobby, he made sure no one missed out, often stocking up on his favorite finds to hand out as gifts for any occasion, or no occasion at all.
He genuinely loved people and never forgot a detail about those he met. He was the kind of person who knew everyone by name in every store or restaurant he visited; if he didn’t know someone when he walked in, he. Certainly did by the time he left.
David believed in doing anything he could to help a friend, and since he never met a stranger, that included nearly everyone. He frequently showed his appreciation by leaving unexpectedly generous tips for service workers, a gesture that often made someone’s day.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2026 from 12:00-2:00 PM at J. M. Ford Funeral Directors, followed by a service in the funeral home chapel at 2:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to carry forward his spirit of generosity by performing a simple act of kindness or leaving a generous tip in his honor.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
