Obituary

North Augusta, SC.......On the evening of April 5, 2023, Leila Christine "Tine" Derrick Foust, passed peacefully into the arms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at the age of 85.Christine was born in Columbia SC and graduated from Columbia High School.

Christine and her husband Terry resided in North Augusta, SC. Christine had four children with her former husband James Donald Smith, Sr: Regina Dianne Brady (George), James Donald Smith, Jr. (Kathy), Elizabeth Ann Thornton (Allen), and Martha Christine Napier-Woods (Sonny), several grandchildren and their spouses, and a number of great-grandchildren. She also gained two stepsons, Brad and Davey with their spouses and several step-grands.

She is predeceased by her precious Mother, Regina Leila Meetze Shealy; Father, Madison Derrick; loving stepfather, James Haskell Shealy; her sister, Regina Ann Derrick; and former husband, James Donald Smith, Sr.

Christine enjoyed being a homemaker most of her life. On her 85th birthday, she commented with a big smile, “I have lived a long life and was happy for most of it. I was happiest raising my children. I loved making clothes for them and seeing how beautiful they looked.”

Christine dutifully served as the North Augusta Branch President for the National Federation for the Blind. She partnered with her daughter, Dianne to bring several Christian movies to Augusta, GA movie theaters. She assisted in research and editing duties with Dianne’s first published book and Dianne dedicated the book to her. Christine and her husband, Terry, operated a food court at Savannah River Site and at the SC Welcome Center for the SC Commission for the Blind.

Christine was a member of Victory Baptist Church and loved the Lord Jesus. She had a genuine child-like faith that she lived out in the daily stresses of life. One of her most attractive qualities was the way she loved others with a pure and sweet love.

“My mother was always a special weave in the fabric of my life. I included her in most everything I did. She kept my babies while I was traveling with work. She accompanied me on my national book-signing tour with my first book. I have been by her side in this eight-month healing journey, coordinating her care daily, and encouraging her through extensive medical procedures and setbacks. I thought this journey would end with her healing and going home with her husband. Instead, it suddenly and quietly ended with the Lord healing her to heaven.”
-Dianne Brady
