Charlie Mongold Obituary

Augusta, GA....... Charles “Charlie” Mongold, 77, husband of Menia Shead Mongold, peacefully entered into rest at their home on June 15, 2025, surrounded by his family.

A memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, June 21, 2025 at St. Mark Methodist Church, with Rev. Thurman Norville officiating. Interment will be in Westover Memorial Park with Military Honors accorded by Fort Gordon’s U.S. Army Honor Guard. The family will receive friends for visitation one hour prior to the service at the church, which is located at 2367 Washington Road, Augusta, GA 30904.

Charlie was born in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas to the late Joe and Esther Mongold. After serving in the United States Army from 1965 -1968, he attended Augusta College. He then went on to continue proudly serving his country working Civil Service at Fort Gordon, where he retired after 42 years of serving as the Chief of Logistics for the 15th Regimental Signal Brigade. Additionally, Charlie was a skilled painter and had a thriving residential and commercial customer base for over 20 years. He enjoyed going on mission trips to Honduras and traveling the country with his wife.  He was an avid Georgia Bulldog fan, and a  master gardener. He deeply loved his family, his country, which he took great pride in, and held  the utmost respect for each and every troop that has served the United States of America.

Charlie and Menia married in 1979, and they were faithfully devoted to one another for 45 years. While they were unfortunately never able to have children, they never lacked in the love of their fur babies, who Charlie called their “girls”. He was passionate about training them, even teaching one to count! The “girls” lived life to the fullest, right alongside him and Menia.

In addition to his wife, Charlie is survived by their sixth “girl”, Lily Sue; his sister-in-law, Patricia Shead Ford and his nieces, Dawn Ford, Carleigh Moseley (Brandon), and Nataleigh Deal. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Michael J. Mongold, and their “girls”, Sophie Mae, Hey Girl, Missy I, Missy II, and Sadie, who were eagerly waiting for their Daddy with wagging tails on Heaven’s Rainbow Bridge!

Honorary pallbearers will be Brandon Moseley, Terrance Hawes, Alex Rada, Ryan Edwards, Dale Thomas, and Harvey “Pyne” Threkeld.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Hospice Services of Georgia, particularly Paul Smith, RN, for their vital role in providing comfort and care in his final days. Thanks also to Dr. Carmel Joseph and his staff, for their attentive care and support. Finally, Menia would like to extend a special thanks to their niece, Carleigh, who Charlie always joked with about being “his nurse”, who indeed honored his wishes of being his in-home nurse, day and night, during his final days.

If so desired, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mark Methodist Church, the Wounded Warrior Project, or the CSRA Humane Society.
