Charles Smith Obituary

Charles David Smith, 1200 Talisman Dr., North Augusta, SC,  entered into rest, March 20, 2020. He was a lifetime resident of the CSRA.  Charles was a son of the late Ossie D and Lillie Bratcher Smith, born Sept. 18, 1945, in Augusta, Ga.  Charles grew up in Augusta and attended Richmond Academy where he was on the track team. He served in the United States Army where he was a paratrooper, and then, because of injury,  became a radio technician. After serving his country he then served with several of our local law enforcement agencies before retiring. Charles was very social and loved and lived life to the fullest before his health failed.  He started the Number 1 dance at the DAV in Aiken, SC and faithfully served for 17 years. He loved country music and loved to dance. Charles was a member of Heights Church, Clearwater, SC, a lifetime member of the DAV Chapter 43 in Aiken, SC where he served in many capacities and he was also a lifetime member of the American Legion.  Charles was predeceased by his parents, sisters, JoAnn Leggett, Washington, NC, Joyce Devore, Augusta, Ga, brothers, George Smith, North Augusta, SC and John W. Smith, Augusta, Ga. Charles is survived by Libby Smith of the home, daughters, Sheila (Chris) Dixon and their children, Samantha, Marcus and Caroline of Fortson, Ga, , Andrea Balmer and her fur babies, Sophie and Lucy,  aka Lucky by Charles, of Charleston, SC, son, Robert (Wendi) Smith and their daughter, Reagan of Johns Island, SC step-children, Amy (Claude) Humphries and their children, Tori Humphries and her children, Drake, Dalton, Dean and Olivia, of Lexington, SC and Courtney (Casey) Coker and their children, Carleigh and Cora of Pelion, SC, Ashley (Andy) Wren and their children, Addie and Drew of Beech Island, SC,  Bobby (Mandi) Henderson and their son, Jake of Graniteville, SC., sister, Vivian (Gerald) Weckel, Augusta, Ga and brother, James (Sharon) Smith, Augusta, Ga. The family would like to extend a thank you to the staff of Stone Pavillion Veterans Home, Columbia, SC and Amedysis Hospice of West Columbia, SC for their endless care of their loved one before transferring to Pruitt Health Nursing Facility of North Augusta and Pruitt Hospice of Aiken, SC.    Charles desired to be cremated, and due to the Corona Virus Restrictions, and because of his love for the ocean and beach, a service will be held at a later date at the Beaufort National Cemetery, Beaufort, SC.
