Charles Ford Obituary

Charles Wayne Ford, 70, husband of Patricia Ford, went home to be with his Lord and Savior at his home on August 15, 2018, surrounded by his family after a long and well fought battle with ALS.

His funeral service will be held at noon on Saturday, August 18, 2018 in the Rowland-Ford Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. James M. Ford officiating. Interment will be in Westover Memorial Park with Military Honors accorded by the U.S. Air Force and American Legion Post #71.

Wayne was a 1966 graduate of North Augusta High School after which he went on to serve proudly and honorably in the United States Air Force. Upon his honorable discharge in 1970, Wayne enrolled in Augusta College where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in 1974. Following his graduation, Wayne taught special education in Aiken County Schools. After his time in teaching, he began his career with the US Postal Service where he worked until his retirement. Wayne and Tricia were married 48 years and had one daughter and two granddaughters, whom he spent much of his time with and considered his girls his “shining stars”. Wayne enjoyed spending time working in his yard and tending to his flowers. He was the family historian and loved studying family genealogy.

In addition to his wife, Wayne is survived by his daughter, Dawn O’Kelley (Chris); granddaughters, Carson Leigh and Nataleigh Grace Deal; brothers and sisters, Dr. Jim and Brooks Ford, Becky Ford, Kaye and Steve Bathe as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Theron Daniel and Nelle Burnette Ford and his brother, Danny Ford.

Pallbearers will be Kris Ford, Klint Ford, Michael Ford, Jeff Lord, Joey Lord, Steve Bathe and Gregg Nantz. Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Ford, Jesse Wayne Ford, Yonce Ford, Liam Lord and Ford Nantz.

The family would like to extend thanks to the staff of Alliance Hospice for their comfort and care in his final days. Thanks also to Dr. Shachie Aranke and the staff of the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center Spinal Cord Unit for their care and support. Finally, a special thank you to Dr. Michael Rivner and all of his staff at the ALS Clinic of Augusta University Medical Center.

The family will receive friends following the committal service at the cemetery.

If so desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Connie Maxwell Children’s Home, PO Box 1178 Greenwood, SC 29648.
