Guests are invited to dress casually and wear purple in honor of Carolyn. It was her signature color.
Carolyn Capers was born in the summer of 1943, in Augusta, Georgia to proud parents William Bascom “Dub” Capers and Mabel Herndon Capers. She grew up in North Augusta, SC along with her two younger sisters, Jean and Mary. Following high school, she met and married the love of her life, Jim Baggott, in 1963.
She worked as an administrative assistant in a local architectural firm for more than 30 years and most recently worked as a specialty advertising account manager for Brown and Bigelow. Her favorite job title, however, was mom. Carolyn loved being a mother to her sons, Barry (Tina) and Scott (Jeanna). They were the joy of her life. The only thing in this world that she loved more than being a mom, was being a Mimi to her five grandchildren, Ross, Tyler, Paige, Cole and Payton. She loved them fiercely and took great pride in spoiling them rotten at every opportunity.
Carolyn had a passion for our city and doing her part to ensure its growth and prosperity for future generations. She proudly served on the North Augusta City Council for 24 years. When she wasn’t with her family or attending civic functions, she was usually embracing one of her many creative pastimes. She was a gifted watercolor artist, a talented woodcarver, and along with her husband, Jim, enjoyed participating in historical reenactments at the North Augusta Living History Park. She was also an active member of Fairview Presbyterian church for more than 60 years.
Preceding Carolyn in death are her husband of 50 years, Jim, her parents, and her beloved aunts Anna, Francis, and Bunny. They are rejoicing today as they reunite in heaven.
Carolyn was small in stature but big in passion. This world is a better place because she was in it and her impact on our family, friends, and community will continue to be felt far into the future.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Olde Towne Preservation Association/Living History Park, P.O. Box 7915, North Augusta, SC 29861.
