Augusta, GA…..Ms. Billie June Mullan Farris, age 91, entered into rest at her residence surrounded by family on January 23, 2023.
She was born at home on September 14, 1931 in Belvedere, SC to the late Harry and Laura Mullan. She lived in North Augusta, SC for most of her life, and raised her family there. For the past twenty years she resided just across the river in Augusta, GA.
Billie graduated from Furman University, and from the University of Georgia with a master’s degree in education. She started her career as a social worker at what was then the Gracewood State School and Hospital, before moving on to Vocational Rehabilitation of Georgia, where she helped disabled and deaf clients find employment. During this time, Billie learned sign language in order to better assist her clients. She also performed adoption studies to facilitate family approval for the courts. Billie also worked with foreign exchange students, and with Easter Seals Community and Disability Services.
She enjoyed anything creative–stained glass, watercolor painting, and genealogy. She loved helping others in any way needed. She was happiest when she had her family around.
In addition to her parents, Billie was preceded in death by her brother, Harry Mullan; and her sisters, Miriam Culbertson and Frances Crenshaw.
She is survived by her daughters, Julie Farris and Karen Senn (Philip); grandchildren Danielle Sessions (Dallas), and Patrick Senn; a great-grandson, Luke Sessions; and many other extended family members.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2023 in the Rowland-Ford Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 p.m., Rev. Thurman Norville officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 1:00 p.m.
