Born May 26, 1943 in Bluefield, WV to the late Arnold Richard and Cleo Stinson Gillespie, Betty lived in California for a time before settling in North Augusta with her late husband in 1968. Upon their arrival in North Augusta, she and Mr. Woody joined Bel-Ridge Baptist Church where they were faithful lifelong members. Betty loved her church and taught Sunday school classes for many years.
Helping people, caring for her friends and family, and being kind were the things she will be remembered most for, including her work for Richmond County Department of Family and Children’s Services (DFCS). Travelling was a source of great joy for her whether it was with her family or on bus trips with other senior adults. Betty loved her community and spent her life quietly supporting it from behind the scenes.
Those left to cherish her memory include three sons, Warren Woody, Mark (Joni) Woody and Gary (Tracie) Woody; five grandchildren, Jill, Keri, Brooke, Zac and Shelby; five great-grandchildren, Natalie (who was lovingly raised by her great grandparents), Maricus, Braxton, Layla and Kyson; and one great-great grandchild, Krue. She also leaves behind her close friend, Renate Blume.
