Benny Dickson Obituary

Benny Dickson passed away on August 25, 2021 at the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center in Augusta, GA.

Benny was born on May 21, 1947 at Ft. Pierce Memorial Hospital to Jewel and Maudie Dickson. He attended grade school at White City Elementary School, Junior High, and Dan McCarthy High. He worked as an Aircraft Assembler at Piper until Uncle Sam drafted him in September 1966. Benny served one year in Dong Ba Thin, Vietnam and received the Bronze Star for Meritorious Performance of Duty from Brigadier General W. Roper. After returning to the U.S., he served the remainder of his time at Fort Campbell, KY.

Upon returning to Fort Pierce, he decided to travel and went to Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, and South America, down the top of the Andes Mountains to Quito, Ecuador and back. After settling down, he worked as a painter, following in his father’s trade. After living in Ft. Pierce for 58 years, he moved with his beloved mother to North Augusta, SC where he resided for the remainder of his life. 

Survivors include; Dickie Dickson of Mt. Pleasant, NC. He was preceded by his brother, Billy Dickson; father, J.E. Dickson and mother, Goldean Dickson. 

The family will receive friends at Republican Baptist Church on Saturday, August 28, 2021 from 3:00 PM until 4:30 PM. A memorial service will be held at 4:30, Pastor Lance Thomas will officiate. Mr. Dickson will be conveyed to Haisley Funeral Home of Ft. Pierce, FL for funeral and interment services.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made to Republican Baptist Church in memory of Benny.
