Martha Lane Bennett of Athens and Newnan left this world after a brief illness on September 12, 2017 after a full life of 87 years. She has been a resident of Athens for the last 21 years. This past year has been one of her best, knowing the end was near, she lived it to the fullest with love and care and in her final two weeks she called all of her closest friends from years past. Martha loved her family and friends. She was predeceased in death by her husband, James L. Bennett Sr.; son, James Leonard Bennett Jr.; grandson James Leonard (Jay) Bennett III; brother, Paul A. Lane; and sister Cindy Pope and her husband Randy. Martha is survived by her daughter, Roslyn Bennett Maner (Gordon) of Athens; grandchildren, Ned Maner of North Augusta, SC and Beth Katz (Scott) of Newnan; great grandchildren Cortlyn Maner, Kennon Maner, Kalyn Michaels, Rebecca Barron, Emma Catherine Barron and Jaye Katz; and many nieces and nephews. Her cremains and her late husband’s cremains will be buried at sea together off of Savannah along with the cremains of her two beloved pets.
