JOYCE GILLIAM ANDERSON, loving wife of the late Jack Edward Anderson, entered into rest in Evans, Georgia, on October 2, 2019. She is survived by daughters, Marty Anderson Moon of Stuart, FL and Kerry Blackston (Charles) of North Augusta, SC. Additionally, she is survived by five grandchildren: Jay Moon of Arlington, VA; Josh(Amber)Moon of Hermosa Beach, CA; Shea Blackston of Charlotte, NC; Chad (Haley) Blackston, and Drew (Amanda) Blackston of North Augusta, SC. and five great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends in the chapel at Sweetwater Baptist Church on Saturday, November 2, 2019 from 4:00 PM until service time. A graveside service will be held at 5:00 PM at Sweetwater Cemetery.
A native of New Smyrna Beach, FL, Joyce was the youngest of five children. She graduated from Stetson University and was a teacher in New Smyrna, in Orlando, and at Hephzibah, Rollins, and Warren Road Elementary Schools. She lived in Orlando and Augusta prior to moving to North Augusta in 1992.
Through the years, Joyce and Jack were active members of Fleming, Hillcrest, and Sweetwater Baptist Churches. They were charter members of Windsor Spring Baptist Church. In 2010, Joyce became a faithful member of Big Stevens Creek Baptist Church.
Joyce always loved to sing and dance. Music was a core part of her life. She and Jack were avid square dancers and members of the Seniors’ Group at Sweetwater making several trips with those good friends. Joyce was a member of choirs throughout her life. Joyce and Kerry enjoyed Augusta Symphony performances for several years. A lifelong learner, she taught herself and others American Sign Language and enjoyed signing the lyrics of music sung in churches and fellowship groups.
