North Augusta, SC… Mr. John Stevens “Steve” Hungerpiller, 87, husband of 41 years to Patricia Hungerpiller, entered into rest on Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at University Hospital.
His memorial service will be held on Friday, September 22, 2017 at 6:00 PM in the Rowland-Ford Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Jonathan Kilpatrick officiating.
Mr. Hungerpiller was a native of Edgefield, SC. He retired from both the E.I. DuPont Company and Westinghouse after many years of service. A longtime member of West Lake and more recently of the River Golf Club, Steve was an avid golfer, having won many tournaments in his younger days. When he found out that the River Club was going to open, he was the first person to apply for employment. He thoroughly enjoyed his time at the River Club, especially the card games with his “group”. When he wasn’t on the golf course, Steve loved to be at Hilton Head Island where he and Pat spent a great deal of time fishing and shrimping. He was a wonderful man who is well loved and will be dearly missed as father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend.
Additional survivors include his step children, Rick Gurney (Laura) of Dacula, GA, Pam Taylor of Martinez and Paula Gurney of Atlanta; his sister, Jane Wright, of Aiken; three grandchildren, Kristen Taylor, Ashley Carter (Dustin), Melissa Cassell (Andrew) and two great grandchildren, Asher Carter and Benjamin Cassell.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Lew Landon, Buck Thompson, Jim Pope, Harold Moon, Ford Verdery, Bob Troupe and Doc Best.
The family will receive friends at Rowland-Ford Funeral Home one hour prior to the service.
