Welcome to the memorial page for

Gloria Boatright Ruvo

March 9, 1927 ~ December 25, 2017 (age 90) 90 Years Old

Belvedere, SC……. Mrs. Gloria Boatright Ruvo, 90, entered peacefully into rest on Monday, December 25, 2017.

Her graveside service will be held at 3:00 pm on Thursday, December 28, 2017 at Pineview Memorial Park with Deacon Robert Hookness officiating.  The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:45 to 2:45 PM at Rowland-Ford Funeral Home.

Mrs. Ruvo was born in Tennille Georgia to the late Frances Doolittle and Russell Howell Boatright and grew up in Augusta before moving to the North Augusta-Belvedere area in 1954. She graduated from Tubman High School in 1943 and then attended Mrs. Garrett’s business school in Augusta where she was trained in secretarial arts and accounting. In her younger years she worked for Roberts Motor Company (area Chrysler dealer) and Bill Jones “Dodge City”.  She served as the secretary and bookkeeper at Our Lady of Peace School in North Augusta for over 20 years; a job that was a source of great pleasure and satisfaction to her. Gloria and her late husband, Angelo, were very dedicated parishioners of Our Lady of Peace Church and made many sacrifices to ensure their children had a solid Christian education. While Gloria’s early years were spent caring for her family, she spent many tireless hours caring for her “other family” at the Belvedere Fire Department as a Belvedere Fire Commissioner   from 1980 until 2010.  In 2010, the Belvedere Fire Department's headquarters on Hampton Avenue was   designated as the Gloria B. Ruvo Building due to her selfless devotion to the well-being of the firemen to support a safe community. Many of the firemen have commented that they wouldn't be where they are today, basically, without her guidance and support. In February of 2004, Gloria was selected for the “Giving Your Best Award” sponsored by News Channel 6, for giving her best to her fellow man through her compassion for others and her commitment to the community. Gloria could be found always rooting for the Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta Braves, and closer to home, she was a faithful fan of the North Augusta Yellow Jackets, rarely missing a home game.

Family members include her children, Mike (Sue) Ruvo of Belvedere, SC, Ellen (Bill) Hinz of Martinez, GA, Tony (Elizabeth) Ruvo of Swansea SC, Janet Payton of North Augusta, SC, and Joan (Kevin) Lester of Ridge Spring, SC; her grandchildren, Jennifer (Al) Ward of North Augusta, SC, Charlie (Travis) Porcelli of Charleston SC, Blaine (Brook) Veal of Atlanta GA, and Clayton Veal of Valdosta, GA; and her great grandchildren, Brycen Ward, Joseph and Logan Porcelli. T

The family would also like to thank her special caregivers, Willene Pullum and Janine Marrs, as well as the staff of Brookdale in North Augusta, and Westwood Nursing Home.

Pallbearers will be Sheriff Michael Hunt, Chad Hyler, Todd Durrance, Dana Hyler and Chad Williams.

Honorary pallbearers will be additional firefighters of Belvedere Fire Department.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Belvedere Fire Department, 204 Hampton Ave., Belvedere SC. 29841.
