Elizabeth Briggs Smith

North Augusta, SC……..Mrs. Elizabeth Briggs Smith, 81, wife of the late Irvin N. Smith, died peacefully on Thursday, May 2, 2019 at National Healthcare.

Her funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, May 5, 2019 in the Rowland-Ford Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Milton Summerall officiating. Interment will follow in Eastview Cemetery, Edgefield, SC. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

Elizabeth was born August 27, 1937 to the late Hugh Hamilton and Merle Timmerman Briggs. She was a graduate of North Augusta High School where she was majorette and played the baritone. In the years following her graduation she was a pianist and organist for (Hardy) Big Stevens Creek Baptist Church and Hillcrest Baptist Church. She enjoyed keeping up with sports, especially the Atlanta Braves. She was an avid Arabian horse enthusiast, having owned and shown them over the years, winning many awards. She retired from Evans Animal Hospital, having served as the office manager for many years. She attended First Christian Church in Belvedere.

Survivors include her daughter, Harriett (Mike) Barden; her son, Kenneth (Mary Louise) Smith; five grandchildren, Derrick (Brynna) Quarles, Summer (Matt) Lathem, Briggs Smith, David Smith and Graham Smith; two great grandchildren, Penelope Quarles and Gemma Quarles; her cousin, Doug Timmerman; special friends, Jessie Clark, Nettie Jones and Nancy Wates; many friends and her pets Friend and Cat.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr. Billy Thurmond and the staff of National Healthcare for their excellent care of Elizabeth.
