Lewis "Lew" Landon

North Augusta, SC…. Mr. Lewis F. “Lew” Landon, 91, entered into rest on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at Brookdale Senior Living. 

Born in Williamsport, PA June 20, 1932 to the late Owen E. and Helen Frantz Landon, Mr. Landon made North Augusta his home for over 70 years.

He earned his bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from Pennsylvania State University in 1954. During his time at Penn State, he was on the tennis team (senior year – Captain) and was a member of Sigma Pi Fraternity. Upon his graduation from Penn State, he began his 48-year career at Savannah River Site as a research manager. Lew will be remembered by his colleagues as an excellent leader who had great wisdom and a heart for people.   He made a significant impact on young engineers and chemists through the years. 

After college, Lew continued to play competitive tennis and maintained a USTA Southern ranking for many years. He played tennis well into his seventies. Following his retirement, Lew enjoyed working at The River Golf Club, playing golf and tennis, fishing and shrimping, working in his yard and traveling to be with his children and grandchildren. 

He is survived by his children, Lynne Wood (Emmet) of Raleigh, NC, Julie Bennett (Ted) of Scarborough, ME, Patti Hedenquist (Steven) of Atlanta, and Lewis Landon Jr. (Laurel) of Augusta; his grandchildren, Taylor Wood, Emmet Wood, Jessica Bennett, Abby Aleshire, Jacob Hedenquist, and Kathryn Hedenquist.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Owen E. Landon, Jr.

To honor Lew’s wishes, no services will be held. The family will hold a celebration of life in the coming months.
